This summer totally flew by! And August went the fastest. The kids started back to school this week and so far so good! Here is how our week went in a nutshell!
Preparation for the Big Day
Monday night we went up to the school and met their teachers, filled out paperwork and put away their school supplies. Up until this day they were bulking at the idea of heading back to school. But this night put a new fire in them! They got to see their friends and teachers again and it got them excited for the good parts of school! As hectic as it is at school that night, it really makes everyone feel a little more ready for that first day!
Tuesday night we got everything prepared for a smooth morning Wednesday. We laid out their new clothes, laced up their new shoes and got their backpacks ready. School isn’t just a big deal for the kids routine but it means mommy’s routine needs to be on point as well! We all need to be dressed and ready and out the door on time! It paid off to be prepared!
The First Day of School
Wednesday morning came and I was elated that it went as smooth as it did! I got up and ready in plenty of time and I got to surprise the kids with pancakes for breakfast! I was just setting the table when the first one of them came down. They LOVED it! Brain food for their first big day! They scarfed down breakfast and got dressed as quickly as they could. They couldn’t wait to put on their new shoes and get to school! I even had time to take a couple of pictures without any grumbling! I doubt this enthusiasm lasts but I will take it while I can!
I was anxious to get home from work that night to hear all about their days. During dinner that night we got to hear all of the stories about what they had for lunch and what they played at recess. Oh to be a kid again! They all had such a great first day! This entire week went really smooth for all of us. Each day they got more and more involved and caught up with friends from last year as well as making some new ones! They are excited about the things they are learning and what is to come. If only I could keep them this excited about learning over the summer! Thank goodness for teachers! God bless them (and their patience!)!!
Here’s to a Great Year!
I have a good feeling this is going to be a great year for them. I look forward to hearing more stories as the year progresses. I also look forward to seeing what each one will learn and how they will grasp things. And not only the skills they will learn from their teachers but the friendships they will make as well. It is amazing the confidence and independence they learn from being in the school environment like that.
Life got a little more routine back in it along with a little more crazy. Now we will have homework to juggle along with soccer games and cheer practice. My life is a hot mess between these busy bees and our little busy bee at home! Eleanor keeps us on our toes as well and Erik has a schedule of his own with meetings and coaching. It is chaos most of the time but I wouldn’t have it any other way. This is what I was made for…love & messiness!!
How are your kids all handling the new school year?!
