St. Patrick’s day is always such a fun day to celebrate! Our family isn’t Irish but we love this saint and celebrate each year with green food & rainbow candy! We also like to talk about the shamrock and how St. Patrick used it to teach the Holy Trinity! We even do fun crafts sometimes but sometimes we are just too busy. That is usually when I look for a fun and easy coloring page for the kiddos. This year, I created my own St. Patrick Coloring Page and I am sharing it with you!

There is so much to learn about the great saint of Ireland! I long to learn and read more about him but here are a few quick facts that I just love to tell about him:
The history of the shamrock
It’s said that while St. Patrick traveled all over Ireland teaching our Catholic faith, he used the shamrock and it’s three leaves to teach them about the Holy Trinity. One leaf for each the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. So don’t forget about the three-leaf clover!
St. Patrick & the snakes
Tales have been told that while St. Patrick traveled Ireland, he banished all of the snakes out of the land and into the sea with his bishop’s staff, much like Moses! It’s said that there are no snakes in Ireland to this day! I’m not sure how accurate this is but it’s a fun story to tell! This fun book tells the tale: The Last Snake in Ireland: A Story about St. Patrick by Sheila Macgill-Callahan
St. Patrick’s Prayer
St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He wrote a very popular prayer/hymn called St. Patrick’s Breastplate and it’s still sung and prayed today! A portion of the prayer goes like this:
Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
I have the printable version of the prayer shown above available in my Etsy shop. Shop here!
