It was a big weekend in our house! After months (okay, years) of not wanting anything to do with a dog or the extra responsibility, we suddenly fell in love with the idea. That seems to be how most things go with us! A couple weeks ago we found the sweetest puppy and Erik and I knew this was going to be our new addition! The Fiely’s were getting a puppy!
Our kids are scared to death of dogs. Like, run out in front of moving vehicles scared. And for no reason. None of them have ever had a bad experience. My husband and I thought the best way to break this fear would be to get them a puppy of their own. This way they can grow up with her, learn her mannerisms and fall in love with her and hopefully all the other dogs we run in to!
When we told the kids we were getting a puppy they were beyond excited. Every day was a countdown to when we could get the puppy. Saturday morning Erik and I got up and went to go get her! I couldn’t wait to meet her and bring her home to our crazy house!
Eleanor is a cockapoo (could they have come up with any more awkward name?!). Her momma is a full breed cocker spaniel and her pappa is a full breed poodle. We were torn between adopting a shelter pup or going through a breeder. We really weighed the odds and thought it would be best to go with something we knew more about. The unknown of a ‘mutt’ made me nervous. We have a big family in a small house and with small kids. I had heard great things about this breed so we ultimately made the decision and quickly found our pup!
This little puppy is really the sweetest little thing! The kids are over the moon and so are Erik and I! I love seeing the kids bond with her and I can’t wait to watch for years to come as they become best friends. She took to them immediately, which surprised me since she wasn’t raised around a bunch of kids! She quickly make our house her home!
We are so happy with her training progress as well! She is doing really well and we have only had one accident so far! Once we get through these first couple of weeks, I think it will feel as though she has always been apart of the family! Wish me luck! (And pray for my patience!!)
