Our first family vacation is in the books and it was amazing! It was more than we could have expected! We headed up north to Kelley’s Island, a small island right off the coast from Port Clinton, Ohio. It was scenic, laid back and perfect for our long weekend!
When searching for a vacation spot, I knew I wanted some place fun, someplace relatively close and somewhere cost effective with fun stuff for the kids! It was seriously so stressful searching! There are so many options! We would find some place, but then no place to stay in our budget. I gave up at one point but then found myself bound and determined to get this vacation booked! I didn’t want to put it off any longer!
I thought of Kelley’s Island when I was thinking back to places we have been. My parents took my sister and I up there once when we were younger so I checked it out. It all fell into place perfectly after that! I found a condo for rent, it had enough space, the right price and it was available! I contacted the family, they were super responsive and that was it! In 24 hours we had it booked!
There was so much for us to do on the island! We rode the ferry across then went up and rented a golf cart for a week. Man am I glad we did! We used that thing all of the time! Each morning we would get up, get dressed and head out for the day! We fed the kids breakfast each morning then stopped at the coffee shop before heading out for a ride!
The first day, once we settled in, we just explored the island then went to dinner. Afterwards we took the kids to putt-putt golf and for hard dipped ice cream. Yum!
The second day we had plans to hike (there is a state park there with trails!) and hit the beach! The weather was perfect! The kids were too excited for the beach though so we skipped the hike and went straight for the water. It was the best experience just watching them play!
Saturday it was gloomy, damp and windy but we didn’t let that stop us! We took advantage and headed out to check out the big waves rolling in from the west. The kids enjoyed throwing rocks into the water and watching the boats navigate! We did a little shopping this day as well since it was a little chilly!
Sunday we cruised around some more and took our time to load up and head out. We were so sad to leave!
Transitioning back into real life was a struggle after we got home and I just wanted to go back! It really is so nice to just not have a care in the world! No worries of laundry, dishes or homework! I suppose now that we are back to reality, I do appreciate the routine again and most importantly…my own bed!
We hope to take the kids on more vacations in the years to come! There were so many memories made! What vacations did you guys take this summer?!
