This weekend went by in kind of a blur (but of course, don’t they all?!). We had a fun day Saturday and took the kids to the zoo! My sister, brother-in-law and my little neice and nephew live pretty close so we met them their in the afternoon and the kids had a blast! Here is a little overview of our fun!
Checking out the African Plains!
We got there around two o’clock and the place was packed! (My zoo planning skills leave a little to be desired.) We took it in stride and even found a parking place two rows from the entrance! (Erik gets credit for this one!)
Once we got through the gates and met up with my sister’s family, we had to do the customary bathroom drill. You know, “Does anyone have to go?” “Nope, not me, I don’t” and as I am walking in, three kids come running because all of a sudden it hit them. I shouldn’t complain though, at least we didn’t get halfway through the zoo!
First off we got to see a leopard and some birds before we headed into the African Journey section. The kids loved the ‘jungle mist’ as we walked through the paths. They were disappointed that they didn’t get the see the lion (he, like many of the other animals, was sleeping in the shade out of sight!) but we got to get pretty close to the giraffes and seen wildebeests and zebras among other animals!
Vayda liked to check out the foliage!
Nora, Lincoln & Marlee checking out some monkeys!
During the course of the day we went through the African Journey, and Indonesian Rain Forest (the orangutan put on a good show swinging from vines!) and the Australian Adventure. We saw some seals, peacocks, more birds and a kangaroo. The kids enjoyed it!
After getting through most of the park, we finished at the farm petting zoo. Animals they see every day, but they got to see them up close and personal! Cows, donkey, goats, pigs, bunnies and chickens! They even got to feed the ducks in the central pond!
These boys are on a mission to find some animals!
Erik said he read this guy was born in the 80’s…he is as old as us!
Vayda enjoying a snack along the way!
The weather was perfect and so was the company. I will say, I did learn my lesson though. Two o’clock on a Saturday in July probably not the best time for the zoo!
But, we all had a blast and most importantly made memories! I won’t mention how awfully tired and grumpy everyone was on Sunday…BUT we will definitely make the trip again!
What fun things did you do this weekend?!
These guys had been fed the hour before. I think they feel how I do after Thanksgiving!
Sweet Nora Ann!
The crazy crew! (Minus Miss Nora)
Thank you to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo for having us! We will be back soon!
